Depending on where you live, you may or may not need to get a
business license. In some locales, you may need to be registered as you
will be dispensing chemicals into the environment.
You will need
to study the different types of pests that are common to your area and
learn the best methods for exterminating them. If you have (or can get)
experience working for one of the large pest control companies -so much
the better. Also much of this information you can find online.
Once
you know the types of pests you will encounter, you will need to secure
a supplier for your pesticides. In many areas, a farmer's co-op is a
good option for supplies. You can also get many of your supplies
online, wholesale.
After you have all the logistics in place, you
can place ads in the paper. You may want to run a "special offer" at
first which will help you get some customers fast. Most people want to
get rid of their pests, but do not want to pay a lot of money for it.
Use that to your advantage.
Because you will have far less
overhead than nationally known pest control vendors, you can price your
services below them and still make a very good profit.
The problem with pay per click advertising is that it can get REALLY
expense very quickly, and there is no guarantee that a person that goes
to your web site will ever become a customer. There is also no way of
following up on these people, which leaves you out the advertising
money and possible out the customer also. This is probably the worst
option for a small independent pest control company looking to grow
their business.
Banner ads and AdWords types of advertising fall
into the above category also, they are just too passive to count on for
results.
Well, where does that leave you as far as Internet advertising?
Let's talk about how you can get free traffic
to your site. By this I mean getting your website to show on the first
page of a search engine when a potential customer types in a search,
such as "local roach exterminator." Research shows that searchers
prefer clicking on the natural results before the paid ads anyway! The
awesome thing about having your web page on the first page, is that if
a customer doesn't call you, it doesn't cost you anything.
So how do you get your web site on the first page?
It's
not that hard to do...when you study the Internet for a living. There
are so many things that the search engines are looking for, and many of
these things need to be set up from the birth of your web page. In
other words, if you already have a web site and you've had it for over
2 months and its not on the first page, chances are it never will be.
One more disadvantage of these ultrasonic pest control products is,
that they work only for specified ranges. Thus, if the pest is situated
outside the range, the repeller will be ineffective. Moreover, the
sound produced by these devices can disturb your pets and cause
emotional distress and behavioral problems. Even electronic devices are
sensitive to these ultrasonic waves, and any interference can cause
improper functioning of electronic devices like hearing aids, cordless
phones, security systems, etc. In 1980's many of the ultrasonic pest
control device manufacturer's had to refund all the money back to
customers, due to ineffective results.
